Dog Training in Tigard, Right Here at Home

Tigard is home base for Happy Paws. It's where Brittney and Joshua Crider live, where our family is, and where board-and-train dogs stay with us. They stay in our house, not in a kennel. If you live in Tigard, your dog trains with a local family, close to your own neighborhood.

Most Tigard families come to us after the soft approach has already failed. They've tried the treats, watched the videos, and heard "just be more patient." Meanwhile the dog still drags them down the sidewalk, lunges at other dogs, or acts like it can't hear its name. That's usually when they find us.

Here's how we work. Brittney is our Head Trainer and Founder, with 15+ years training dogs of all breeds and temperaments. She doesn't hand out a cookie-cutter plan. She looks at the dog in front of her, works out what's really going on, and builds obedience that holds up outside of training sessions. Training happens in real life: neighborhoods, parks, stores, and everyday routines. Your dog learns to listen where it counts, not just in a quiet room.

Because dogs live with our family, we only take a few board-and-train dogs each month. That limit is on purpose. It means every dog gets real attention instead of getting lost in a crowd.

While your dog is with us, you'll get daily photos and videos texted straight to you from your trainer's personal phone. At the end we do a full turnover, so you know exactly how to keep the results once your dog is home. Every board & train, service, and therapy program includes a lifetime warranty with weekly refreshers as needed. We meet at your home or another location and focus on whatever you're struggling with. The warranty remains in place unless you refuse to do the training we taught you.

If you'd rather be hands-on, private lessons happen at your home, at parks, in stores, and in other real-world locations. That way we work on the exact routes and situations that give you trouble day to day. We usually do the first 4 lessons once a week so you have time to practice at home and out and about in between. Lessons don't expire.

Getting started is easy for Tigard families. Your free evaluation takes 15 to 30 minutes at Summerlake Park, right here in Tigard (if the weather's bad, we meet under the covered overhang or reschedule). If board and train is the right fit, drop-off and pick-up are at our home in Tigard, and we'll share the details once you've booked.

What our clients say

Caitlin Borjesson — We had been struggling with our 3 year old Great Dane, Crouton's reactivity for awhile and because she's so strong, it got to the point I couldn't walk her solo anymore and visitors to the house just caused stress. She worked with Josh during their 2 week board & train program and the difference is incredible!! For the first time in YEARS I'm able to loose-leash walk Crouton on my own and don't worry about her reacting to distractions along the way - and when she does, I know how to handle it.

KD Tiller — Josh was amazing with my baby! Sammy was in the 3 week board and train, I knew she would be very challenging since she is a rescue and very dog/animal aggressive. She will always be reactive and I will always have to be cautious but after spending the three weeks with intensive training she has come back home a well behaved little girl. I will refer them 100%
